How To Cut Through the Gimmicks and Lose Real Weight

You can find dozens of articles that deal with the minute details of weight loss. They will tell you things like eat exactly this many calories, do this many reps and sets in the gym, or increase your cardio by this many minutes per week. Well what I wanted to do was look at weight loss from a larger perspective. I want to provide a larger look at the situation, and what kind of mindset you can put yourself in in order to lose weight. Weight loss is a two-fold proposition. It is simply about input vs. output. Simply, you need to be burning more calories than you take in.

Intake

First of all, you have to cut calories. Now, I won't give you detailed diet plans because those are impossible to stick to. Instead, there are some basics that you can live your life by. First of all, your diet should consist primarily of lean protein, vegetables, and healthy complex carbohydrates. The protein will provide your muscles with energy and help you rebuild after a tough workout, while the vegetables and complex carbs will provide you with a full feeling for hours. This helps you eat less, and thus consume fewer calories. Make sure to check your labels for calorie information, even for fruits and vegetables. Every calorie counts when trying to lose weight, and I would hate to see you run a calorie surplus for the day because you ate an extra apple and banana.

Frequency

It is not enough to simply to eat the right foods. Timing also plays a role. Your body will immediately switch into survival mode once a meal is digested because it does not know when it's next meal is going to be. This is why your body stores fat instead of immediately using energy. This system can be overridden though, if you know the right secret. The secret here is to eat several small meals throughout the day, the total of which should just reach your calorie goal for the day. When eating multiple small meals you body is always digesting something. This helps you consume less but still feel full all day, and prevents your body from storing fat because it's not going into survival mode. Yes, it is difficult to eat often and consume the correct amount of calories over a whole day, so your best tool is going to be:

Portion Control

That's right, at the start of every day, week, or whatever frequency you choose, portion your meals up into separate containers. If you're doing this regularly that means that you're not going out to eat, which saves calories, and you're going to save a lot of money at the same time. If you know that you get to eat your next mini-meal in an hour, you have a lower risk of over-eating when you finally get that meal. When you constantly know what you're going to eat next and when, it's very liberating.

Give this diet plan a try. As a side note before we continue however, I want to express my distaste for the term "diet". What this plan is isn't a diet, it's a system of eating that helps you eat less. The term diet insinuates that it is temporary. If you go back to your old eating habits you will gain back every pound. That is how you got there in the first place. For this system to work, you have to stick with it long-term.

Workout

The other side of the weight loss equation is filled by working out. In order for your body to lose weight you must run a calorie deficit, which causes your body to use your fat stores for energy. Once your new eating plan is in place, you must sit down and plan out your attack on working out. Try different forms of cardio, and mix in some weight training at least twice per week. You may find that you like biking either inside or outside, or running inside or outside. Try all of them and see what you like the best. The goal here is to stick with this long-term, so you must enjoy what you are doing. For reference, I enjoy running outside the most with either music or talk radio on my iPod. This is very distracting, which is the point. If you get distracted with a song, you can easily run half a mile while it is playing. Anyway, start out slow. When I started running it was jogging half a mile, and then walking home. You quickly gain stamina though, so by the end of the first summer I was running 4 miles. It is very hard to do, but the runners high you get after your done makes it all worth it.

Another option for working out is by doing one the popular workout programs today such as p90x, insanity, or 10-minute trainer. These programs are popular because they work! They raise your intensity so that you can get done faster. If you click one of the links below you can learn more about these great programs!

Conclusion

And finally, the conclusion. If you follow this eating and workout plan, you will lose weight, plain and simple. The funny thing is, after a while of doing this it becomes routine, and you really get addicted. A low-calorie eating plan because normal, and you actually feel bad if you don't workout. It becomes second nature, and soon you will see real results. The results make you feel great. You will have more confidence, more drive, and a lot more energy. Good luck!

How to Be Irresistible to Women - 6 Hot Tips

Oh, here is that word... irresistible. Mmmmmm! Who does not have that goal? What man does not want women to have their hands all over him? There are so many ways you can accomplish this, even if there is only one special lady you are looking to get this attention from. It is not difficult at all, really, it isn't. A few tweaks here and there and you can have almost any woman you want pawing at you. So listen carefully to these six secrets and before you know it women will be pounding down your door to get to you.

1. Smell Good

Showers help in this department, but we are talking about spending a little extra bling bling on the after shave and cologne you choose to use. Smell is everything when it comes to being irresistible. Think about it in these terms. You walk into a restaurant and the scent of freshly grilled steak assaults your senses. Instantly your stomach begins to growl and you know right away what you are ordering. The same is true for women. If you walk past her wearing Calvin Klein instead of Old Spice, she knows she wants an order of you!

2. Be a Romantic

Whether you have a lady in your life already, or are having a potential long-term over to your place, romance is the key. Sure, sex is great--okay, a little better than this--but romance is irresistible. What is romantic, you ask? Start off with a dinner you prepare for just the two of you. Eat by candlelight with soft music playing in the background. Suggest a movie afterward, but not just any movie you see. There is not a woman on earth who doesn't love "An Officer and A Gentleman." Oh when Richard Gere comes into the factory dressed in his Navy whites and sweeps Debra Winger off her feet, carrying her off... *this* is romance. Take notes buddy, because after this she is putty in your hands. Stand her up, sweep her off her feet and carry her into your bedroom that is laden with rose petals. Oh yeah, that's what I'm talking about.

3. Show Your Adventurous Side

Women love adventure and unpredictability. So give her what she wants. Try something new as often as possible. When you pick her up for your date, cover her eyes with a blindfold. Won't she be surprised when you arrive for your skydiving lesson? The thrill of not knowing what you have planned combined with the adventure of the date itself sends your irresistibility level off the charts.

4. Thoughtfulness Goes a Long Way

Women love a thoughtful guy, so you better start thinking. You do not have to rush out to the jeweler and buy her a diamond bracelet. In fact, she will appreciate you more if you just present her with a Hallmark card that says, "You are so special to me," or something along those lines. This tells her you are thinking about her and have the ability to show how you feel. Talk about wow factor--this is definitely it.

5. The Dominance Factor

Okay, before we go any further with this secret, let us get one thing straight. Dominance does not mean you tie her up and tell her it is your way or the highway. You do not purchase a whip to keep her in line. Dominance in this context means you take the lead in situations. It means you are the alpha male as you are destined to be. You make the decisions, but you do not degrade her as a person. Although women have an unconscious attraction to dominant men, it does not mean you are aggressive in any manner. It simply means you take strong action to get what you want. This is what she finds irresistible about you.

6. Be Funny

Women will find you irresistible no matter what if you can make them laugh. They love to laugh, they love being positive. It does not matter how attractive she is, or if you think she is completely out of your league. If you can get her to giggle and smile, she is all yours my friend.

So here are the secrets to being completely irresistible to women. You see, they really are not as complicated as you thought they would be, are they? Implement them into your life today... right now. I promise you that you will have your choice of the opposite sex soon, very soon.

Understanding the Impact of Duplicate Website Content

When you begin to create a web presence for your work from home business, it can be tempting to look for short cuts to get things up and running. We all know that the best websites are fantastic sources of information, telling us things we don't know from news to how-to guides and articles.

The quickest way to create a rich website that is full of great content is to bring together some of the content that is already available online. But did you know that duplicate content on your website can seriously harm your reputation? Even copying just a few pages from a competing website can result in damage to your reputation, your search engine performance and - ultimately - your success.

The simple answer is to make sure that everything on your website is entirely unique. But, even if you spend the time and money creating an original online home for your business, you can still be affected by duplicate content. After all, there are hundreds of other people that might think it is a good idea to 'borrow' some of the work that you have done.

Read on to find out more about duplicate content, what constitutes online plagiarism, and the impact of this on your business. You will also learn more about what you should be doing to protect your website against the constant threat of content theft.

Why must your website content be unique?

As you browse the Internet, you will see that some websites include a statement on every page that tells you who owns the copyright. The reality is, though, that the copyright symbol and statement of ownership mean nothing.

As soon as somebody creates something, it is their intellectual property. There are no exceptions, and no further action is required.

Taking this information passing it off as your own is a criminal act. If that is not enough of a deterrent, duplicate content will also affect your search engine ranking. Search engine crawlers trawl the Internet, analysing the quality of web sites and their individual pages. These crawlers all have one goal - to find the pages that are the source of great information.

If a crawler thinks that your website is a source of valuable information that visitors will find useful, you will be placed higher in the search engine results. That means that you will attract more visitors and, in turn, more customers.

But the most important word here is source. If you are not the source of information but just a person that repeats it, search engine crawlers will either ignore your website altogether or actively downgrade your rank.

Search engines even grow concerned if you duplicate your own content. If pages on your website repeat the same information, you will appear to be making your site look bigger and more useful than it really is.

Protect Your Website Against Content Theft

There is little doubt that you need to invest the time that it takes to create a website full of valuable, original content. That is why so many businesses write blog posts, articles and web pages on a variety of subjects related to their business.

But if you are going to invest your resources in top quality content, what can you do to stop it from being stolen? After all, the Internet is a public place and putting valuable business assets online such as articles and blog posts is like leaving a window open to your home, or handing someone the code to your safe.

Unfortunately, there are very few ways to protect your content against theft. Some webmasters and business owners take drastic measures, such as switching off the ability for customers to right click on images, making it harder to save a copy. Although this is a moderately effective deterrent, it can interfere with the experience that your legitimate customers get.

Another common technique is to add hidden lines in content. These lines provide a date, time and credit for your content, but can't be easily seen by people who would plan to use the content for themselves.

Of course, this does not really help to protect your content, but instead makes it easier for you to identify websites that are using it without your permission. What's more, this is not easy for novice website owners to implement.

Thankfully, there is an easier way to make sure that your content is not copied.

Using CopyScape To Check If Your Website Has Been Copied

There is one free online tool that makes it easy to check for plagiarised (copied) versions of your content online. Copyscape allows you to enter the address of your website and automatically check for similar content on other domains. In just a few seconds, you can see if somebody has been copying your work.

In addition, CopyScape offers an affordable paid plan that constantly monitors your website and checks for copies around the web. This is a great way to get on with focusing on your website, safe in the knowledge that you will be notified if somebody else copies it.

Of course, another effective solution is to search Google every now and then for some key phrases from your website. Most people that steal content make no attempt to edit it, but leave it intact. That makes it incredibly easy to find!

Images Are Intellectual Property Too!

Finally, don't forget that images are also an important kind of intellectual property. With the advent of Google Image Search and other similar tools, it is easy for people to stumble on photos that you have taken and copy and paste them to their own websites having never seen your page.

At one time or another, most of us have used tools like Google Images to find some inspiration for website images, but using these photos without permission equates to theft of intellectual property.

If you are looking for royalty free images that you can use on your website, two great resources are Compfight and MorgueFile. Both of these sites are easily searchable to find the images that you need in high resolution.

If you find that somebody else is using your images without your permission, they are still subject to the laws of intellectual property.

What To Do If Your Website Has Been Copied

If you find that somebody else is using your work, without your permission, to improve their website, your first reaction will probably be anger.

I have been the victim of plagiarism before now, and felt prepared to pick up the phone and start shouting at the webmaster in question! The truth is, though, that this is rarely a productive solution.

But as you take time to think and plan a response, you have several options available to you. Make sure that you consider them all fully.

1. Do Nothing

Depending on the content and how duplication will affect you, you might decide to do nothing at all.

For example, if an image has been borrowed that is fairly generic, there may be little reason to be annoyed.

It is also important to note that, providing you are the original source of information and search engine crawlers found your website first, you have nothing to lose. Your search engine rank will remain unchanged, while the other site is seen as a duplicate and ranked down accordingly.

But if you do nothing, you give permission to people that steal content. It might be okay this time, but what happens when they steal more?

2. Contact The Offending Website To Ask For Credit

Often, it is enough to simply get in touch with the offending webmaster. Write a polite email that explains that you have found their website and have noticed that the content is duplicated.

Usually, you should ask for the content to be removed. Putting search engines aside, if a potential customer happens to find this duplicate content before they see yours, it is only natural that they would assume you are the duplicate, not the source.

But, particularly with regard to blog posts and articles, it can be a great idea to allow the content to be used, providing that you receive credit and a link back to your website. Simply put, you have very little to lose and if the offending webmaster just happens to find success, it could be helpful to have a link sending traffic back to your business.

3. Use A DMCA Notice To Stop Duplicate Content

If the situation cannot be resolved in a friendly, cooperative way, webmasters can now use recent legal changes to have the content removed.

The Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) is a specific set of regulations that applies to copyright and ownership of content on the web. This is the same law that is used to prevent music and film piracy, so you can be confident that it is taken very seriously!

The first step in pursuing a claim for removal of content under the DMCA is issuing a takedown notice. You can create your own using the templates available at mcanerin.com/en/articles/copyright-03.asp

Of course, particularly unprofessional and unhelpful webmasters may just ignore your notice, or not be accessible via email. If so, you should take steps to contact the web hosting provider that runs the offending website - they are also obliged to remove stolen content on their servers. You can find out which hosting provider the website uses by visiting whoishostingthis.com.

The Law Is On The Side of Content Creators

One blogger and e-book writer issued his own DMCA Takedown Notice after he found that his book was being illegally distributed around the web. In his post on the subject, he reports that the content was removed by the host in less than six minutes!

Duplicate content can harm your website and your reputation and, if you are unable to reach an amicable conclusion, it is good to know that the law is on your side. So start creating that rich original content now, safe in the knowledge that it is protected against theft!

Let's Have Some Fun and Laugh

So many times we get so busy in our lives that we forget to have fun. But learning to let go and have some fun and play can benefit our overall health. Not only does having some fun help us emotionally, it can benefit us physically. Having fun will cut our stress and worry and it will decrease hypertension and depression and enhance our energy level. When our body is in a constant state of stress it is damaging to our body, but when we reduce our stress and laugh and have fun it is beneficial to our well-being. So increase your play time and you will increase your longevity and have a good time while you are doing it.

Having fun will add joy to your life by stimulating your imagination, curiosity and creativity. Play will inspire you to think differently and have a sense of lightness so that you don't take things so seriously. Maybe you didn't have healthy role models for having fun. Some people just have an overly serious attitude and don't know how to take a break from their responsibilities. Some people think that they are too busy for something as trivial as having fun and don't give themselves permission to let go and have leisure time. It's not selfish to indulge in fun personal things. It doesn't take away from your family by giving some time to yourself. You may even be able to involve your family and friends in a fun activity. You don't have to have a lot of money to have fun either, just be creative. You shouldn't put off having a good time until later when you have more time, when you have taken care of your responsibilities or when other people's schedule fits with yours. Make time each day for yourself just to have fun.

Don't know how to have fun? Have an evening picnic by candlelight in the backyard or throw down a blanket and have a picnic in the living room (my kids love this), camp out in the backyard, take a walk at dawn to relish the sunrise, do something creative like paint (one of my favorites), write your significant other a love note, take a long bath in scented water with candles and soft music, play queen for a day and pamper yourself, sleep till noon because you stayed up late the night before with some friends, finger paint with your children, run in the rain, take an art class, go dancing or for a bike ride, learn some funny jokes, write yourself a positive message on your mirror in lipstick (don't be uptight, it will wash off), roller skate, fly a kite, engage in an old hobby, look at old pictures and laugh at how you used to look, play a board game, cook a comfort meal, rent or watch a funny movie, visit a zoo or museum, have friends over for a potluck, have a root beer float or eat something from your childhood that brings good memories, go play miniature golf, pick berries, look in the newspaper for local activities, ride a roller coaster, play with silly string or play with a hula hoop, go shopping, learn to play tennis (and laugh even when you have a hole in your racquet), learn yoga, go get a makeover, read a funny book, buy yourself some flowers, play with a child or go get an ice cream cone (or catch the ice cream truck) or anything that makes you smile. Just use your creativity to come up with other things that you would find fun. Having fun starts with a positive and happy attitude.

Ask yourself -

  • What do you like to do to have fun?
  • How do you feel when you are having fun?
  • What is keeping you from having fun?
  • What benefits do you get from laughing and having fun?
  • What new behavior do you need to develop to have more fun?
  • What new activity would you like to try that you think would be fun?
  • Thinking back, what were some things that you did that were really fun?
  • What can you do everyday to have some fun?
  • What have you been putting off that would create fun in your life?
  • Can you laugh at the silly things that happen in your life?
  • Will an attitude change of having more fun in life affect others in your life?

Remember the saying that "laughter is the best medicine?" Studies have shown that laughing and humor actually does help patients heal faster when they are ill. One study showed that after watching a funny movie 95% of participants had better blood flow and 70% had worse blood flow after watching something stressful. Laughing helps fight infections, helps control diabetes, eases pain, reduces allergic responses, lifts your mood and just plain feels good. So everyday have some fun... and laugh!

Do-It-Yourself Wedding 2

Once you've chosen your date and figured out your budget - both the budget you want to stick to and the budget you know you have to stick to, you should start working on your guest list and your ideas binder. You'll also want to approach your first string bridal party folks early and start talking to your first choice venues as soon as you've identified them so you make sure you don't miss out on a great location because you were asleep at the wheel.

Nailing down your guest list early is crucial. A modest wedding budget will stretch much farther if you have fifty guests instead of two hundred and fifty. By the same token, your fourteen bridesmaids and interpretive dance routine will feel a little silly if you realize you only have a guest list of twenty-five. Your guest list - not so much who is on it, but how many, will inform where you have your wedding, what time of day, what kind of food, what kind of wedding favors, and any number of other factors. Feel like your wedding will be ruined if you don't have the glitter infused, hydroponically grown calla lilies but just can't squeeze them into the budget and pay for the sit down dinner and cocktail hour for all of your guests? One of the most efficient ways to trim a wedding budget is to trim the guest list. Having the guest list in place early also helps you stay organized as the RSVPs and gifts start rolling in. A simple excel spreadsheet or other database will help you keep track of who is vegetarian, who needs a kosher meal, who gave you the awful gravy boat, and who sends their regrets. This information is invaluable both when talking to vendors and at thank-you note time when the dust clears.

But I thought planning my wedding would be fun?! When do I get to look at sparkly things and talk about tulle?! That, my friend, is what the big binder is for. Start an idea book for yourself. Anything that inspires you, put it in the binder. From wedding magazines to flower ideas to fabrics and music. Put those ideas in your book and don't be afraid to dream. You're still far enough out from your wedding that you don't have to decide on the mermaid gown or the princess cut just yet. Think about the crystals in the flower arrangements. Try out sparkly nail polishes. Let those ideas percolate for now. If you find a vendor you particularly like, get their card and talk to them about how far in advance they are getting bookings.

Oh yeah. You should probably also book your officiant. Particularly if you are having a religious ceremony, you'll want to make sure that you give yourself plenty of time to complete any premarital counseling required by your particular faith or officiant. While your head is whirling with all of this mediocre-to-un-fun stuff, have a little fun, too. If you're so inclined, throw an engagement party. Not only are they a smash, it's also a great opportunity to flex your fledgling party planning muscles and let your hair down a little before you buckle down in full on wedding insanity mode.

Urban or Suburban - The Oakville Versus Toronto Wedding Catering Edition

In the past, a young couple looking to tie the knot in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) may have kept their choices to such fabled downtown locations as the gazebo at the Music Garden. But couples these days know that they don't have to limit themselves to downtown locations or catering services. In Oakville, for instance, there are a wide range of services for weddings. So, what's changed?

1) The accessibility of farmers markets

Farmers markets are no longer the once-a-week, downtown affairs of yesteryear. Now, it seems, each community has its own market - and Oakville is no exception. Catering services in Oakville can easily pick up farm-fresh produce for their wedding clients at the local market.

2) Outlying areas are actually closer to farmer's fields

Many brides and grooms of today express a preference for local food. Although "local" can be hard to define, it often refers to the number of kilometers food travels from field to plate (or from field to banquet catering in Oakville!). Viewed in this light, the decision to host one's wedding, catering and all, in an outlying area of a major urban centre, can be viewed as a socially conscious decision, making suburban weddings more attractive to some.

3) The urban exodus

We hear constantly about how the average family with young children can no longer afford to live downtown, where the price to quality ratio has long posed a problem. As families move to the suburbs, our wedding catering and overall event planning practices may need to change as well. Depending on where guests live, it may be more central for a GTA couple to use wedding and catering services in Oakville, or another suburb, rather than in Toronto proper.

4) GTA's stellar public transit system

On the same note, the GTA is blessed with an extensive public transit system. The Oakville GO Station is undergoing a major renovation, which may in turn benefit users of catering services in Oakville next spring and summer.

5) Space

Downtowns are eclectic and fun, but also crowded. In a suburban setting, wedding guests may not have to jostle for parking or a seat on the bus. The wedding catering service may have more space to set up. Couples can choose from a wider variety of settings in which to celebrate, including Oakville's greenhouse garden and extensive network of Heritage Trails.

6) Waterfront, waterfront, waterfront

Most Canadian provinces and territories are surrounded by oceans, bays, lakes and other bodies of water, which explains why it has become somewhat of a tradition to get married by the waterfront. To this end, many wedding catering services in Oakville have waterfront facilities.

7) History

We sometimes forget that many of our suburbs were once separate farming villages. For instance, Montrealers used to vacation on the West Island, which was seen as an idyllic rural retreat. Likewise, Oakville has a long history of its own, separate from Toronto's. Wedding, catering and other plans can take advantage of its unique heritage.

These are just some of the factors that explain why some young couples today prefer to avail themselves of the wedding, catering and other services on offer in Oakville and other suburbs, rather than opting for a major urban centre like nearby Toronto.

The Allure of Ancient Greece

With civilized cities, rich cultures, powerful armies, and abundant mythologies involving the lives of gods and humanity, the ancient Greek culture continues to fascinate us. The influence of Ancient Greek culture can still be felt in every facet of our modern society today. The Olympics Games, music, philosophy, art, theatrical productions and many other recreational activities and hobbies we partake in today were without question pioneered by the Ancient Greek civilization. We must also note that modern democracy was developed from the Athenian government. Although there were limitations based on social status, it was still one of the world's earliest well-developed democracies which allowed majority of the citizens to participate in politics through voting. To sum it all up, it is safe to say that Ancient Greece birthed western civilization.

Collection of ancient artifacts has always been something we as humans have always been drawn to. There's no better feeling in the world than holding a piece of artifact, feeling it crumbling slightly with age, and wondering what the circumstances were at the time it was made. For instance, take one look at the unearthed weapons of ancient Greece and one cannot help but marvel at the scope and brutality of the war fare at that period. One can also deduce that the Greeks were a military might and a force to reckon with. Their armies developed a tight formation with warriors armed to the teeth with sturdy body armor, helmets, long shields, and destructive weapons including swords, spears and dagger blades. These single-bladed swords feature downward cut and were no doubt designed to maximize the force of the blow. Macedonian army also used wide range of projectile tools such as arrows. Judging from the wide range of military tools that have been discovered, it is no wonder the Greeks were considered to be the world's greatest conqueror, even expanding their power to Asia Minor. Greek influence and their military prowess can be clearly seen on the artifacts unearthed from the countries which once were conquered by them.

Other great varieties of Greek artifacts feature the scenes of Greek gods and show us of how the ancient Greek people thought highly of their mythologies. Similar to ancient Egyptian Gods, Greek gods are known for personalities that are similar to that of humans. While they lived in the world separated from the lands of people, they would occasionally interact with people in military affairs, love, and many other aspects of everyday life. The ancient Greeks honored these Gods and their stories by artistically presenting them on their everyday items such as oil lamps and pottery. Majority of Greek pottery feature mythological scenes of Greek Gods and other mythological animals. Battle and hunting scenes were also popular, since they allowed the depiction of the horse, which the Greeks held in high esteem. This form of representation of mythology and culture later on influenced Roman culture greatly, until the spread of Christianity.

With all this said and done, ancient Greek artifacts should be at the top of every serious collector's list. Not only are they aesthetically appealing, they are also highly educational as they give insight into the fascinating world of ancient Greece. A world that gave birth to what we generally refer to as the Western Civilization.

How Do You Know When You've Met the One?

This particular question, that is finding your ideal mate is applicable to both genders, and I suspect is very much an individual thing. Is it that you've been in a relationship with someone for a long period of time and think okay it's time to get married and have children? It's the right thing to do; I'm of the right age, and ready to settle down. S/he has certain qualities which I admire, a certain frankness and brute honesty that is a rare quality these days. We've lived together for some time and there aren't too many surprises left. Is this a rationale or basis for a marriage?

I suppose I'm being something of a devil's advocate, I am certainly posing certain questions tongue in cheek. The one is a consideration of the person with whom you would like to spend the rest of your life with. I presume it's not an outmoded thought and that modern day young people are still searching for their lifetime partner. You will note that so far the article isn't telling you where to look, as this is very much a case of what you're like as an individual. It depends on the things you like doing, and the mate that you would choose. For instance if you're a fan of music and enjoy playing an instrument yourself, you may find an ideal mate by attending concerts, joining a choir, or even some sort of group.

Having spotted someone you think might fit the bill you then need to check if that person is interested in you. It's no use getting proverbial goose bumps and planning your wedding if the person of your affection is not checking for you. You need to ensure that its mutual, which is where dating, comes in. If you ask the person out on a date, and they make excuses they are not interested. If they accept the date, but have an ulterior motive, i.e. a free meal, wanted to see a particular film, etc. I would not pursue it any further. If you are already friends with the person, be careful they may simply accept as a friend.

Taking all of the above into consideration once the date goes well, and the attraction is mutual, you seriously need to consider if there is a possibility that this could be a possible romance and ultimately be the one. You should take into account physical compatibility, emotional compatibility, geographical compatibility, shared interests, mutual friends. In addition you should consider career aims and objectives, and if they have a similar sense of humour. It is vital that you both laugh at the same things.

Finally, and believe you me the list is not exhaustive there is communication. How well do you communicate with each other and how comfortable are you with the things they say to and about you. These are some of the things to consider, but essentially I believe you will know when you've found the one and it's not just the vibes!

A Brief History of Data Storage and Back Up

Magnetic Tape

In 1952, IBM introduced the IBM 726, a high speed magnetic tape system that would store large amounts of data at relatively low cost. At that point, it was sold with IBM's model 701 computer. It had the capacity to store 2 million digits per tape.

Since then, magnetic tape has continued to be the storage method of choice for inexpensive, mass data storage.

In 2010 IBM and Fujifilm launched a magnetic tape storage device with a capacity of 35TB, more than 40 times the capacity of existing cartridges.

Hard Drives

Hard disks enable large amounts of data to be randomly accessed.

The first hard drive in the form of magnetic disk storage, arrived in 1956 with the IBM 305 RAMAC (Random Access Method of Accounting and Control ), with 50 magnetic plates that could take 4.4MB of data.

Compact Cassettes

Philips introduced the compact cassette of magnetic tape in 1963, becoming popular in the 1970s until the 1980s. Compact cassettes were used in some computers, such as the Commodore 64 and the Amstrad CPC, storing 700kB to 1 MB of data on each side of tape.

Floppy Disks

The arrival of the IBM 8-inch floppy disk in 1971 had an advantage over the existing hard drives. It became popular as a portable means of program and data storage that you could move between drives. Initially the floppy disk had a storage capacity of 80kB.

Sony sold the first 3 ½" floppy disk drives in 1981 and with the commitment of Hewlett Packard to this format, the 3 ½ "came to dominate the market with capacity now around 1.44MB.

Compact Discs

Music compact discs (CDs) spawned CD-ROMs, launched by Philips and Sony in 1983 with a pre-recorded data capacity of 550 megabytes and companies collaborated to set a norm to allow the information to be accessed from any computer.

USB Flash Drives

The flash drive was introduced in 2000. They are smaller and faster and with a storage capacity nowadays of up to 256 GB, flash drives have replaced CD Roms and Floppy disks.

We have come a long way in terms of data storage; however, it is important to note that many of these forms are still in use today. Magnetic tape is still widely used for mass data storage as it is considered to be the most reliable and trustworthy. This proves that not all forms of technology are doomed to extinction.

Overcome Your Fear and Achieve Your Goals Now

Fear. Fear of failing. Fear of losing. Fear of being wrong. Fear of change. Fear is one obstacle that everyone encounters. You can see it coming toward you, or it can sneak up on you when you least expect it. It can slow you down, distract you, or stop you in your tracks. It can even cause you to run in the opposite direction. You can find yourself thinking "I would do thus and such - if only I wasn't afraid." Fear, if left to its own devices, can become all consuming.

Great, you're thinking. Now what? I admit it. I'm afraid. How do I stop? The truth is what you want to stop is being held back, impeded by your fear. It doesn't really matter if you feel fear, as long as you know how to manage it.

So what can you do, when you're afraid?

1. Step one is to admit it. Stop fighting it. Fighting it can make it stronger. Acknowledgement doesn't mean give in to it either. Just recognize you are afraid. Simply say, I am afraid.

2. Next, name your fears. Take a sheet of paper, and title it "Fears." Now, list your fears by name. Be specific. Give yourself time for this task. Write, "I am afraid that... " Take your time. Be gentle with yourself as you name your fears. Curl up with your dog, sip a cup of herbal tea, listen to music that soothes you. And name your fears. All ofthem. When you finish - standup, stretch, and take a few deep breaths.

3. Now, look at your list of fears. For each one, I want you to make a note, has this come to pass? Has this fear come true? Has it already happened in your life? A simple yes or no will suffice here. If the answer is yes, then that is no longer a fear, but a challenge for you to address. So take a separate sheet of paper, and title that "Challenges", and copy this fear there, so you can address it later.

4. Take a blank sheet of paper, and title it "Opposites." For each fear that remains, those that have not yet come to pass, I want you to write down the opposite of the fear. And when you write that opposite, write it in the present tense, e.g. I have, I am, I do.
For example:

Fear: "All my efforts will fail, I won't accomplish anything significant in my life."

Opposite: "All my efforts paid off in the end. I achieved great success and accomplished significant goals in my life and in the world."

Fear: "I will never get my book published."

Opposite: "I am a prolific writer and published author. I am a best-selling author."

5. Next, take another blank sheet of paper, and title it "Opportunities." Look in each Opposite for at least one Opportunity for you. You may find several Opportunities in a single Opposite. Great! Write them all down.
For example:

Opposite: "All my efforts paid off in the end. I achieved great success and accomplished significant goals in my life and in the world."

Opportunities: "I can check out some volunteer organizations and go give some time to something that resonates for me. I can review my business goals and make sure my values are reflected in those. I can find a life coach or mentor to help me make sure I stay on track."

Opposite: "I am a prolific writer and published author. I am a best-selling author."

Opportunities: "I can write another draft of my latest story. I can go find a critique group to get some constructive feedback on my latest novel. I can send out more letters to possible agents."

6. Look for one action you can take for each Opportunity. Write down the next tiny action you can take in the next 24 hours for each one.

7. Pick an action and commit to it today. Just one.

Now you have worked through your fears to get you to place of taking action. Taking action is the key to achieving your goals. It is also the key to managing or overcoming your fears. And the next time you feel afraid, use this process to manage it.

Trademark Basics

What is a trademark? Should you instead "get a copyright" or "get a patent"? Understanding the basic facts about trademarks can avoid misunderstanding and give you the knowledge to protect your hard work and grow your business or other activities.

A trademark is something that identifies the source of products and services. It may be one or more words, artwork, symbols, a sound, a color, or practically anything that differentiates a product or service from other companies. For example, the well-known Nike swoosh trademark, or the McDonald's golden arches.

You may have heard of a "service mark." For most purposes, just consider it to be the same as a "trademark" for a service instead of for a product. For simplification, you can just say "mark."

Usually, a mark for products appears on the product or on the product packaging. A service mark usually appears in advertising for the services. A copyright protects an original artistic or literary work (like a painting, a book, software code, a play, a movie, music, and such works). A patent protects an invention (like a gizmo or a method for doing something).

Essentially, if you want to have a mark, you just start using it. When people say that they want to "get a trademark," they usually mean that they want to register the mark with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

To register a mark, you must file a proper application to register the trademark with the Patent and Trademark Office. You application will state that you have a bona fide intent to use the mark in U.S. commerce. You may already have started using the mark in U.S. commerce before filing your application.

One common misperception is that one must wait until registering the mark before using the trademark or before asserting your rights in the trademark against others. While you may have strategic reasons for not asserting your mark until a later date, you should at least understand that registration is not required to begin using your trademark in your business activities. In fact, delaying using the trademark may erode your rights such that there is the concept of "use it or lose it."

The ability to sue an infringer is a major advantage to registration. If one company wants to sue another company over a trademark, getting an award of money damages is more likely if the trademark is registered with the Trademark Office. Filing a fictitious business name notice provides no trademark rights.

If you detect a conflict between your use of a trademark and someone else using the same or similar trademark, you need to note that generally the party that either uses the trademark first (and keeps using it) and files a registration application first usually will win a battle at the trademark office. Thus, file your trademark registration application as soon as you are ready.

Thomas Jefferson - Author of the Declaration of Independence

When our Founding Fathers were faced with complying to Great Britain's demands or breaking away, it was a big decision. They knew that any resistance on their part would be big enough to categorize them as traitors with the penalty of death for treason. They gathered together and with courage made the decision that their beliefs, "Liberty and Justice for all" and the American people came first.

His Influence as a Founding Father:

Thomas Jefferson was asked to put pen to paper and draft the principles for which they stood. He wrote the Declaration of Independence without notes, writing and rewriting until the page was crowded with edits. His goal was to create a document that his countrymen would understand, one that would inspire them to take on the great risk of separating from Great Britain. Thomas Jefferson's courage came from an unshakable belief that he would be successful with this task and that the resulting Revolutionary War would be successful as well. His bravery was marked by an optimism that other Founding Fathers lacked. Even George Washington doubted that the new republic would be a success. Thomas Jefferson's unwavering conviction that a government based on "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" would endure and thrive demonstrates a courage that fearless men the world over still fight to prove true.

Initially, Thomas Jefferson wanted John Adams to draft the Declaration of Independence but Adams persuaded everyone that Jefferson was the man for this heavy assignment. Some reasons for this that we can safely assume are that Thomas Jefferson had spent a life time ardently pursued his love of learning. His gift with words combined with a passionate belief in the concept of liberty would result in the document that would not only lead to the Revolutionary War but would also shape the ideals that the nation would hold dear for centuries to come. Ideals that we hold to this day.

"I believe in the dreams of the future more than the history of the past," Jefferson once wrote to his lifelong friend, John Adams. They had a difficult friendship. Brothers from the start of the Revolutionary War, their differences after the war in their political parties caused a rift between them in the late 1790s, one that was not healed until 1812 when they established a close correspondence that they would continue until their deaths in 1826. It has been said that if John Adams wrote the words of the American Revolution, Jefferson wrote the music. Both died within four hours of each other on the fifth anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. John Adams last words were: "Independence forever" and "Thomas Jefferson survives." Just before his death, Jefferson called his friends and family to his bedside and said:

"I have done for my country and for all mankind all that I could do, and I now resign my soul without fear to my God, - my daughter to my country."

His Life and Greatest Accomplishments:

So where did this man come from? With such a legendary life we'd expect that he was born predestined for it. Thomas Jefferson was born in Virginia in 1743. His father, Peter Jefferson, managed a plantation until his death in 1757 when Thomas was just 12 years old. From an early age, Thomas was blessed with a lively curiosity. At the time of his father's death, he had already begun to learn Latin, Greek and French. Thomas Jefferson though was not without faults. In both his political and personal life, his actions have sometimes been viewed as contradictory to his core beliefs. Although he valued liberty and equality above all else, he not only owned slaves but is also thought to have fathered children by one of them, Sally Hemings. The fact that he owned slaves while advocating for the end of slavery is particularly disturbing because Jefferson sincerely believed that when a man lived a moral life, that morality influenced and improved the lives of others. It seems this was an internal conflict that he lived with his whole life.

Thomas Jefferson won the presidency in 1800 after a tie with Aaron Burr sent the election to the House of Representatives. He had run the campaign on the new Democratic-Republican ticket, a party formed to counteract the growing power of the Federalist Party. He was at odds with Federalist Alexander Hamilton's view of liberty. Hamilton believed that individual liberty must be preserved through social and economic policies enacted by the central government while Jefferson felt that too much government endangered individual liberty. His beliefs are still found in our government today. The Democratic party is an off shoot of his party and although the modern Republican Party would not be created until 1854 and is not a direct off shoot, its name was chosen in homage to Thomas Jefferson's beliefs. We now owe him another debt for continuing to fight the fight of a lesser government.

As president, Thomas Jefferson's stand-out achievements reflected his courage to imagine America as a great country that would play a positive role on the world stage. Just as his writing in the Declaration of Independence inspired a belief that a nation built on liberty and equality would succeed, Jefferson's drive to expand the nation's borders bolstered a belief in a bright future for America. Jefferson oversaw the Louisiana Purchase in 1803, doubling the size of the country. In 1804, he directed the Lewis and Clark Expedition to explore the West. Thomas Jefferson is regarded as the Father of the American West even though he himself never traveled more than a few miles west of his beloved Monticello home.

Other Thomas Jefferson achievements include the formation of the military academy known today as West Point, the ability of the Supreme Court to declare laws passed by Congress unconstitutional and the banning of slave importation from Africa. He was the first president to demonstrate that the transfer of power between parties could be conducted without chaos or revolution. Yet it is his vision of a country where liberty and equality prevail that is his greatest legacy.

Thomas Jefferson alongside George Washignton, Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt is one of four men sculpted into Mt. Rushmore, South Dakota.

What inspires me when I look back on Thomas Jefferson's life is that the path he chose to follow was not necessarily the easy one, but the one that he knew was paved with beliefs and morals he held close to his heart. He believed in liberty for all equally and freedom to love his God. He believed the citizens came first and the government is there to protect the people. When we think of our freedom's it is important to remember that this Fearless Man, Thomas Jefferson, was the principle author of the Declaration of Independence that detailed why they were breaking away from Great Britain. At that time this was considered treason and punishable by death. Thomas Jefferson stood his ground, and we are better for it.

How to Attract Women Without Talking

You don't really have to say a word before you attract a lady. In fact, before getting to talk to her, she will probably have decided whether or not to talk to you just by looking at you. It's all in the non-verbal cues. This is the secret to the law of attraction with women. You cave to compose yourself in a certain manner or risk loss of interest form that pretty lady.

First of all, you have to be careful about your posture. To a large extent, how you pose has a huge impact on the kind of impression you are going to make. You must exude great confidence and composure by how you walk as well as how you stand. One wrong move and you can as well forget your chances with that fine lady.

Another crucial factor is eye contact. This does not mean staring blankly at a woman you are interested in, but something along the lines of you like what you see. Research has established that eye contact is very important in communication whether verbal or not. It is therefore very important to steal a glance once in a while just to let her know that you are interested. If you are lucky she may even respond by looking back or with a smile.

If the woman gives a positive response such as a smile, it's time to smile back. The smile should be accompanied with a look that says you would like to talk to her. The amazing thing is that all this is done from a distance away. It's like a coded language that sends messages straight form your brain to hers. The truth is that this can be compared to giving a complement. As is well known to many, women do love complements.

The secret lies in such small gestures. Nothing really complicated. As a strategy to attract women without talking, eye contact and confidence will probably increase your chances of getting a date with a beautiful lady than if you went straight to talking. Moreover, if she gives you a positive response you can be sure that she is also interested in you.

The bottom line is that there are men who charm women with their words, others with their cars yet others with their abilities in music or sports. For some, it has always been a mystery how someone can charm a woman even before they speak. Indeed, as has been noted, you can also attract a woman without talking.

3 Double Bass Drum Techniques For Improved Speed And Power

Over the years, bass drumming has gone through many stages. Gene Krupa and Buddy Rich amazed the masses with their hand speed, but little attention was paid to their kick foot. Jazz drummers like Ed Shaughnessy began using double bass drum set ups in the 40's and 50's and rock drummers like Ginger Baker, Keith Moon and Carmine Appice made the double bass drum setup popular.

The creation of the "slave pedal" allowed drummers to have 2 beaters hitting one bass drum, allowing for smaller setups without sacrificing the double bass ability. The use of the double bass is predominant in heavy metal, death metal and punk music. There are 3 predominant playing styles for the bass drum pedal.

The first is the "heel-toe" technique. The technique allows a drummer to play two strokes in a single motion. It consists of two parts. First, the foot is suspended above the footboard of the pedal and the first of the two notes is played with the ball of the foot. Then, the foot snaps forward, the heel comes up and the toes complete the second stroke. This technique allows for rudiments to be played with the feet, as well as increased speed.

The second is the slide technique, in which the pedal is struck around the middle area with the ball of the foot. As the drum produces a sound, the toe is slid up the pedal. After the first stroke, the pedal will naturally bounce back, hit the toe as it slides upwards, and rebound for a second strike.

Of course, many drummers like simply using the flat foot technique, which simply applies the majority of the foot to the pedal, and only the heel is elevated slightly off the pedal. This method utilizes more muscle groups than either of the other 2 methods. It also relies more on repetition and less on "technique".

The great thing about double bass drumming and the various techniques is that there is no right answer and no wrong answer. It is all about personal preference. If you tallied up the most amazing drummers in the world, you would be able to find each technique in use. What works for one drummer doesn't always work for another drummer - this led to all of these inventions and techniques being created.

No matter which technique you decide to use, the important thing is to practice, practice, practice!

Improving Eyesight Naturally - Overcoming Obstacles To Pursuing Your Vision Improvement Goals

If you have decided to pursue an effective natural vision improvement program as an alternative to glasses, contacts or laser surgery, chances are that the very thought or idea of reducing or eliminating your dependency on them sounds very appealing to you. However, it's difficult to begin because your mind is bombarded with roadblocks as to why you can't achieve your vision improvement goals. In light of those concerns, here are some helpful tips that can remove obstacles that hinder you from the successful pursuit of your vision improvement program.

Time: The most common obstacle bar far is that life is so busy that it is difficult to incorporate eye exercises for better vision into your hectic daily schedule. Here is a way you can resolve this problem. Identify blocks of time during the course of your day when you do have time available and try to incorporate the techniques by fitting them in at these key particular times. Re-evaluate your priorities according to importance and make a natural eye care program one of these priorities.

You can fit in a routine that will help you in terms of improving your vision naturally, immediately upon waking in the morning. This is a time when your eyes are fresh and this time is generally ideal to perform the techniques. Fitting it in at this time decreases the likelihood of procrastination. The techniques are not time-consuming due to the fact that they only require 10-15 minutes to perform and the exercises are customized to suit your individual needs. If your watch has an alarm, you can set it to go off at a certain time of the day each day; that way you won't forget to perform the techniques. This also ensures consistency; one of the key factors in getting maximum results from the program in terms of improving your eyesight. As far as time is concerned, different people have different circumstances and situations. From this point of view, it is good to choose the appropriate schedule that works best for you.

It's a sacrifice that is too big to make: You make big sacrifices everyday in terms of setting aside time for your education and your career. Now, 10-15 minutes is most certainly, a comparatively smaller sacrifice considering the fact that all of these important activities could not be performed without healthy eyesight.

It takes too much effort to perform the program: The truth is that the program does require some effort on your part in order to see results. In order to achieve anything in life you have to put some effort into it in order to achieve it. However, on a positive note, when you compare eye exercises to improve vision to other regular physical exercise programs such as Bodybuilding for example, eye exercises are a walk in the park. In Bodybuilding you are lifting heavy weights in order to build muscle mass and strength and often, this requires a great deal of strenuous effort as workouts can be quite grueling. On the other hand, with eye exercises you are performing very simple and easy exercise routines that involve eye movements in different directions without the heavy lifting Bodybuilding requires. You can even perform the techniques while listening to your favourite music on your iPod as a source of motivation. This makes the techniques even more fun and enjoyable.

It's quite understandable that most of us have concerns and objections about pursuing an eye exercise program. Such factors relate to the following: insufficient time, concerns about the effort and sacrifice needed to pursue the program. Furthermore, as the saying goes: "where there's a will there's a way." The same principle applies to pursuing your vision improvement program. In other words, once you set your mind to something and realize just how vital a priority your eye health is, roadblocks, obstacles and excuses soon become irrelevant as you keep your eyes consistently on the target of achieving better natural vision; after all, if you believe in yourself, you can do it!

More Confident

I think a very good method to raise self-esteem is working out /exercising. Nothing makes you feel better about yourself than a good workout. Also doing other things for yourself helps, like buying new clothes, getting a haircut and other stuff like that. Also going out with friends or going out on dates makes you feel great.

Working out has been a very good influence in these couple of weeks. Thus far I am rehearsing my ability to step out of my comfort zone and do new things. Courage really helps in creating self esteem and basically enlarges the psychological boarders of the freedom to choose.

For those thinking about working out in the means of running or cycling there is a really great app on the market called "Run Keeper." It offers a lot of functionality and different stats. By GPS it tracks your distance and time, besides that it shows the calories you have burned. You can add certain goals to it that you want to work on and there actually is also the possibility to join a community by making a street team. The amount of offered service is very high. The free version is more than enough for me anyway and it can give a lot of pride and feelings of accomplishment when looking at the results and posting runs onto Facebook or twitter.

Here are a few things to think about to make you feel better!

Positive environment, people, sunlight, music.

Positive thoughts, optimistic, sunny, bubbly

Acting in a confident way, walking taller, dressing smarter, smiling

Acting can lead to the feeling can lead to the thinking

Achieving something, accomplishing a goal however small

Environment is such an important factor, being aware of this is really half of the thing I do believe. Did you know that your physiology (the way you carry yourself) has a direct impact on your mood? When someone is feeling bad they automatically take a certain posture and breathing rate that's typical for that state. Yet when feeling bad and training yourself to remind yourself to keep a straight posture and keep breathing deeply can really improve how you feel. Partly because of this reason I think that practicing of yoga, meditation, mindfulness or actually also sports is so important. Things that have a positive impact on body and breathing awareness really help to stimulate on conscious competence and promote better feelings overall without much direct effort in the moment.

Listen to self-hypnosis tracks first thing in the morning (before I kick start the day) which is basically a guided daydreaming experience. That way I make sure I start my day with some positive fantasizing exercise. I really believe in the power of visualizing and day dreaming, and as a teenager, unaware of their positive effects, I would fantasize about my ideal future just before falling asleep, but these days, with the load of work and responsibility adulthood brings with it, it is quite difficult for it to happen on its own, so I found that, even if I don't get to do any day dreaming during the day, the small dose in the morning is enough to motivate me.

Self reflection. Always have a pen and notepad on me, and I jot down self-reflecting thoughts that come to my head, so I always make time for my inner philosopher.

Self-reflection at night time is also always the way to end your day on a high note. Even if you have felt horrible through out the day, just before it comes to an end, you turn things round and make something positive out of it, i. e. you learn from the day.

Also I find that weekly challenges that put your courage to test can be an excellent confidence booster.

According to science the amount of self esteem is linked to the amount of courage someone is willing to invest. Every unit of courage spent will pay back in self esteem.

Jack Canfield summed it up very nicely. It's like a stack of poker chips. When you would be playing at a table and your stack would be high, then you would be willing to take more risks and participate. The real deal is to raise your stacks of confidence to participate in life more.

Meditation is a very good way to develop confidence and self esteem. It's far from a quick-fix method, but the daily investment someone would be willing to make could sum up to a tenfold return over time.

Meditation promotes non judgement, calmness and patience. This creates space for new ideas and more room for self examination in a more eased way. With time someone can really understand himself through this process and instead of be acted upon by external events, just choose his response in a detached and emotionally more stable way. Why I also think this is so important is because the quality of thoughts determine the quality of our lives. The quality of our decisions ultimately make our future.

I hope this helps some people!
